“I know I can’t go back to how things were. You can’t do that, not after knowing firsthand the things that are happening around here.”
Having no spectacular nor special upbringings, Ian Owenshire might well have been at one point a fair representative for the human populace. Your typical bookish young man, his daily schedule consisted of keeping himself busy with work, and he’s quite proficient and quick in what he does, with a fine eye for detail. Generally amiable, he rather likes company, even though he doesn’t care for excessive attention. He prefers to be unobtrusive, and for someone like him, it’s easy for Ian to blur with the background. He’s never been anyone important, he’s never aimed to be, lacking in motivation, and because he didn’t know what he wanted, he settled for what he had.
And then one day things happened, and doors of opportunity that he’d never sought before suddenly flung wide open around him. It was like he’d been floating placidly in a pond that suddenly flooded and became part of the sea, and he’d been handed a paddle without the proper instructions on how to make the best use of it.
Things have changed. He’s changed, even though he’s still not quite sure how. With one foot still stubbornly set in the past and the other wedged in the doorway of an unknown and most likely dangerous beyond, Ian’s just starting to see things in a new light, and like it or not, there’s no turning back now.
He's caught in a catch-22 where the current normality of this day and age has revealed to him abilities he would probably have never known himself to have otherwise. Frustratingly enough, said abilities render abnormal the norm, and only because they are present. Such being the case, Ian never means to actively be a part of any Incidents, but he also can't escape the possibility of being an asset or a hindrance.
You Don't Know What You've Got Until It's Gone
It's not an ability he's had opportunity to hone for various reasons. Ideally he'd love to just box it up and slide it in a corner and pretend it never happened, but for his lack of understanding in control and effect, his power tends to rear its head at the most inopportune moments. Or is it for the best?
He's no one important, he's never aimed to be. Ian lacks motivation, and because he doesn't know what he wants, he tends to settle for what he has. Maybe there's something better that he can devote his time to than keeping the order of books and silence. Maybe he'll know it when he sees it, or it slaps him in the face.
Take It Back
Sometimes powers tend to be "sticky." There are things you don't tend to think about, like what happens to powers that you shut down. And then you find out they've kind of found a new temporary home... He didn't mean to do that, really.
Mechanical Effect: You have an almost preternatural capacity for detecting danger. Your Notice skill works unimpeded by conditions like total concealment, darkness, or other sensory impairments in situations where someone or something intends to harm you
Stunt Cost: 1
Mechanical Effect: +2 to any Stealth roll to blend into a crowd. What a “crowd” means will depend on the environment—a subway station requires more people to be crowded than a small bar
Stunt Cost: 1
Mechanical Effect: You can use Lore as a defense against Provoke attempts, provided you can justify your ability to overcome your fear through rational thought and reason

Power Suite One: X-Factor Manipulation
You have the power over powers. Or you would if you knew you had it. Create a Fair (+2) Will obstacle to using powers in his zone, Grant a boost called 'Empowered' by touch. Only 1 boost at a time and Copy 1 stunt worth of powers, barring collateral damage effects or improved special effects.
- Power Amplification - Grant the boost 'Empowered' to a super powered character by touch. Only one boost in play at a time.
- Power Nullification - Project Fair (+2) opposition to using super powers into your zone, overcome with Will. Sense presence and general nature of powers.
- Power Replication - Mimic 1 stunts worth of powers by touch, not including special effects or collateral damage effects. Sense presence and general nature of super powers.
- Area Attack - Attack everyone in a zone
- Inflict Condition - You add an aspect to the target which you can invoke once for free
- A Mind of Their Own - Being somewhat untrained, and in fact not realizing he has powers at all, Ian has a tendency to use them without realizing.
- Super-Power Strike - A nameless NPC with powers gets taken out instantly, while super-powered named NPC or PCs must either take a mild consequence or lose access to their powers entirely until the end of the scene. This energy blast resonates throughout the area, causing everyone there—whether they have powers or not—to become dazed and disoriented.
