A result of the combined genetic material of Sean Cassidy and Ororo Munroe, Sergio is neither the bought-and-paid-for scion of an old moneyed family nor is he the honed product of a government masterminded super soldier program. Point in fact, he’s a failed attempt to create a very specific set of traits by a team of researchers partially funded by Shaw Industries.
The team grew several-such subjects alongside Sergio at accelerated growth rates. What Sergio experienced as years of happy childhood was actually a beautifully simulated and incredibly brief fiction, albeit very similar to what he might have been experienced in modern day life. He was removed from stasis relatively prematurely than is convention, roundabout six years of age physically after it was determined that he did not meet the criteria his creators sought. What that might have been and what fate awaited him had he been up to par, he may never know.
Instead, Sergio was for lack of a better term… discarded. Under the veil of a philanthropy and a quick way to write-off the wasted expenses incurred by his creation, Sergio was given to a previously qualified childless family to raise.
Adapting to a new life, though somewhat traumatic, was easier for someone so young. Sergio’s new parents were an educated, middle-class couple within the city limits and although they had their apprehensions about welcoming a mutant into their home, they were willing to try. Both were employees of corporate giants and ideal candidates to take on the emotional, monetary, and various other responsibilities that come with bringing up a child. That is… they were, until a series of layoffs put their bright shared future into a state of upheaval.
Sergio’s life was saturated in extreme poverty. He proved to be a greater burden than ever to his increasingly VR-addicted mother and chronically unemployed father. Education was a natural safe-haven but fell by the wayside once Sergio was old enough to find employment of his own: cleaning, serving, delivery. You name it! Though no stranger to crime, he could never stoop to it.
Anecdotally, his manifestation occurred during an attempted mugging… wherein he was the attempted victim.
Sergio is a failed attempt to augment and improve upon Ororo Munroe by splicing her genetic makeup with that of Sean Cassidy.
Due to something experienced during his VR-simulated childhood, Sergio suffers from a fear of small enclosed spaces.
Sergio's sense of self-worth and the humility inspired by his upbringing is rarely improved by his accomplishments.
