On Inheritance Gambit you can play a wide range of characters and sometimes the “types” of those characters might seem a bit convoluted and even excessive so we want to tell you the driving forces of why we have these character options.
- We never want to have to remove someone from their character. Not if they haven’t RPed lately, not if they haven’t logged in recently. Once you make your character, it’s yours.
- We want everyone to get to play the character they want, be that Wolverine or something of their own creation.
- We want everyone to get to play the version of the character they want. James Howlett. Logan. Old Man Logan.
This is pretty much the core idea of the game. The entire setting has been created with this in mind. To try to accomplish this, media-based characters that could only exist as a one-off aren’t appable.
Your character will have both a Legacy and a Creation.
Our Legacy options include:
- Original
- You’re not a clone, your genetic material (or programming, if an Android) is unique (not counting twins).
- Clone
- You are a direct Clone from the mutant database on one of the Arks.
- Your character does not need to be an exact copy. Example: X-23.
- Your “original” can be someone of your own OOC design, but the character is still a Clone.
- Hybrid
- Available to Biogensis and Chimera Origins.
- Your character is Hybrid clone, the product of two sets of source material. Example: Nate Grey
- Augmented
- “Enhanced” humans through ‘gene therapies’ or technological augmentation.
- Mostly they don’t work, or result in badly deformed (Morlock-like) mutates, but some successful, powered examples walk the streets.
- Digitization
- Agent Recovery Program – Derived from the LMD program, SHIELD isn’t willing to let the minds of some of their finest agents go.
- Digitized humans – humans important enough to preserve their minds as computer entities.
Our Creation options include:
- Born
- Available to Original and Augmented Legacies.
- It’s been over twenty years since the last recorded human birth and they are all sterile, but this is a “pure human” option.
- There are also still some people out there with the X-gene that were able to have children.
- Biogenesis
- Available to Clone and Hybrid Legacies.
- While you were created in a test-tube, you were born (through a surrogate mother or an artificial womb) and have grown up in the world around you. In the US there are a lot of couples that desperately want children and with enough money and influence, they can get their heart’s desire. These children usually have supportive home lives.
- Biogenesis Creation characters are always Mutants.
- Chimera
- Available to Clone and Hybrid Legacies.
- Chimera characters are always mutants.
- Created in a test-tube, these characters were also “grown”, usually at an accelerated speed, with their minds plugged into a virtual “Framework” and they live simulated lives until they’re defrosted, usually at around 10.
- If you want to play a particular version of a character, say Age of Apocalypse Cyclops, this is your out. Their Framework experience can be whatever you want to be, including any of the stories that you might want for your character’s background. The hitch is, none of that was real. The character might not believe it, but the Player needs to understand that.
- Android
- Available to Digital Intelligence or Original Legacies.
- A sentient consciousness in an artificial body.
