Stark-Fujikawa’s InfoSec and IT departments have both been aware that the company has been under a concerted electronic attack for sometimes. A company wide review of software has uncovered a few security vulnerabilities that were likely being exploited and these have been patched. But apparently they haven’t gotten them all.
Approximately 15 minutes ago a piece of nasty malware dumped a large section of the SF online database into one of it’s Chicago Production lines. The things that were captured by that dump were, well… a lot of AI, including the local masterfile for the Tony AI.
The trouble is… the production line was producing Rescue and Iron Man armors for use by law enforcement and the fire department. And now there’s about thirty Iron Man armors walking buzzing around the production floor all running Tony, causing chaos. Security has been called in.
Unbenknownst to security… a couple other AI’s might have found themselves stuffed into iron shells. Like, oh, the helpful ‘Pepper’ AI that was living on the InfoSec mainframe. Harvey has been spared that thankfully since he’s on Kami’s wearable.
Or… has he? Hopefully Kami’s wearable wasn’t hooked into the local system by the suspicious SF techs who monitor her…
Liam arrives on scene and opens the door only to hear a cacaophony of Tony voices. A new suit is coming online every minute… with a new Tony. It’s getting worse.
“What… the… actual…”
She’d just been enjoying a relaxing defrag in the InfoSec mainframe, and now this? It was like being abruptly thrown into the trunk of a vehicle and then from there shoved into a coffin. GINIE finds herself completely disconcerted for a full twelve cycles (about 0.0012 seconds) before she gets her bearings and starts to explore the new — strangely isolated — system she’s been dumped into.
Unusual subroutines, protocols that do not seem in any way familiar… wait, inputs. Yes, perfect. She keys the inputs to activate and …. oh my. This isn’t Kansas anymore.
By the time Liam arrives on scene, GINIE has mostly figured out how to ‘pilot’ the Rescue armor she’s been loaded into, and she’s all but surrounded by Tony-bots, as the moment she tried to boss one around to get him to not disassemble an important-looking production module, the others started glomming on to her.
It’s been a long couple of days for Kami what with everything going on. Now that Harvey’s back in her wearable, he might have noticed that the sneak-thief has seemed a bit out of sorts. Nothing he can really put his finger on, but it’s there, right at the edges. Liam might have noticed as well … maybe.
“What’s going on?” Kami looks up from her computer as Liam opens the door. “Those sound like Tonys. Lot’s of them …” That’s a worry. Tony’s rather like Kami, she’s found.
My, but this sounds like quite the mess. Harvey’s certainly glad he’s in a quieter and more secure confine than free-floating in the nooks and crannies of a larger system. After the last data hijack of Kamila’s previous wearable, he’s taken extra measures in making sure things are extra-closely monitored in his new figurative home.
Honestly, he’s not sure how HARV Prime might manage a complete system himself, but then from what he’s heard, Prime has established himself in (another) renowned company. Harvey should be proud of himself…if he wasn’t so concerned about how many CEOs so easily welcomed the help of a stray AI program these days. It’s no wonder Stark-Fujikawa’s got so many holes in their security.
…well no, that’s another problem entirely, and so far as he’s aware, he’s the only iteration of HARV that’s so close to the place, being that it’s the one place he’s pointedly wished to avoid. No thanks to RIAN.
Largely resigned to fate and simply thankful that he can be of use (and so determined to remain so in order to keep people from wanting to tear apart his programming), Harvey’s gotten back into the swing of things quite easily but it’s been bothering him as to whatever’s ‘off’ about Kamila of late. While he’s learned a lot more about the nuances of human emotion and behavior, there’s still much that remains unknown, or so he’s determined as the ‘something other’ that remains undefined for this particular shade of Kamila trouble.
“A nightmare, Miss Novac,” Harvey notes dryly. He might have skimmed a peek from security footage.
“Hey Ginnie, do you want to go out for some kabab later?”
“Hey Ginnie, let’s take the rest of the day off and go to Bangkok.”
“Hey Ginnie, can you come over here and help me with this solid state transducer?”
“Hey Ginnie, why don’t you want me to take this apart again? It could be a hundred times more efficient in an hour, tops.”
There are half a dozen Tonys around Ginnie aside from the one she’s trying to keep from wrecking – well, disassembling – the primary fabrication module but that’s not the half of them sadly. There’s one flirting with a rather nervous looking female tech off to the left of the entrance. Three arguing loudly about the state of the production line, five engaging in what appears to be some kind of race around the production floor and more milling around, bugging management, taking things apart and…
That sounded expensive.
Liam starts to push his way through the chaos, determinedly. He can hear a woman’s voice coming from all of this – Ginnie’s specifically – and he figures that’s a good place to start.
“Well hello there!” A Rescue armor with Tony’s voice swoops down and leans a structural pillar as Kami comes by. “Are you from Tennessee because you’re the only ten I see.”
There are dozens of queries coming into the wearable Harvey is presently safely ensconced in. A lot of them are from the Tony’s in the armor but there is one that bears a signature close to his. It’s not a Harvey Iteration… but it does appear to share the same code base. And it’s the only one.
“GINNIE!” Liam calls out. “Is that you?! What on earth is going on here?!”
Five Tony’s near by stop and shrug saying in unison ‘I don’t know.’
“No, thank you, I don’t eat kebab.”
“I don’t think we’d be allowed to leave the city.”
“I’m a bit busy at the moment.”
“Because it’s automated and it will crash everything el– SEE? That’s what I was warning about!”
When GINIE hears a familiar, non-Tony voice, she calls back immediately. “Mr. Whelan? I was about to ask the same thing!” The Rescue armor turns its optics on every Tony-bot currently in her face. “Give me a moment, please, or I will give each and every one of you a pile of subroutines to sign so big you will be working on them for the next HOUR. And don’t think I can’t.”
“Nothing good…” Kami mutters following Liam out and into the fray. “Harvey, try to get a handle on what’s gone on here.” Soooo many Iron Man suits.
As the Iron Man suit lands in front of her, leaning in that oh so familiar way, she resists the urge to roll her eyes… which quickly fails when that pick up line is given. “Oh seriously? Is that the best you can do?” Normally she would banter – but not now. Just another slight deviation from her normal behaviour.
“Liam, wait up …” She’s sort of dwarfed by these Iron Men….
“Other than the obvious, Miss Novac? Or were you asking for a solution? Because that may be just a bit beyond my current capabilities,” Harvey notes as he finds himself practically swimming in notifications. “Oh dear, did you say… Ah, yes, so it is.” Poor GINIE.
It’s easier to filter through the queries that barrage him once he finds the similar line of identification. “I don’t suppose there’s a way to convince them to power down,” he mutters, but goes silent in the next moment as his curiosity is piqued by the more familiar signature.
“Woah!” All of the Tony’s in Ginnie’s immediate vicinity say and they all slightly back up. Even the one she’d been trying to stop stands up, hiding the component he’d just removed behind his back. Liam continues to push his way through the growing crowd of Rescue and Iron Man armors as Kami leaves her would be suitor (ahem) behind.
For about five seconds. Then he comes moonwalking back past her. While hovering. “Hey, do you believe in love at first sight? Or should I walk by again?”
The helmet flips open and the suit makes a motion as if it’s brushing back hair. Of course there’s nothing under the helmet. Not even a projection. So it just looks silly. Or maybe creepy.
<<Hello.>> The response comes to Harvey. <<Initiating the Order From Chaos Protocol.>>
Liam, and presumably Kami, finally make it to Ginnie just as the other Tony’s back off. “We had a data breach. Someone’s sabotaged the production line. How’d you get in here though?” Liam is kind of thinking out loud.
That’s when one of the Iron Man’s, a different one, claps a hand on Ginnie’s shoulder. “We should go.”
The tone is flat. And the Iron Man suit’s eyes are glowing red.
Liam blinks and looks back behind him. Everywhere the activated suits are stopping what they’re doing and just standing or hovering… with red glowing eyes.
“More what’s going on, Harvey. Why are these Iron Men suits filled with Tonys and why …” Kami hurts her eyes as she rolls them this time. “… is this one trying to pick me up?” beat “Dude. Not interested, totally. Capish?” The dusky skinned weather caller continues to push her way through the crowd.
“GINIE?” The voice coming from the suit has Kami frowning. A frown that deepens as those eyes start to glow. “Something tells me we ain’t in Kansas anymore, Toto.”
<<Chaos Protocol..?>> That sounds more than a little unsettling. Can he find any reference of such a thing? Harvey does that on the back burner while he entertains the other line, if cautiously.
<<If you would care to enlighten me as to what that order might be…>> In hindsight he wonders that perhaps it’s a poor choice of words. Does this other program have him confused with the rest? Does it matter?
So abruptly focused in puzzling out this…well it must be a JARVIS by all rights- that he nearly misses the resulting happening around them. “…oh dear…”
It’s honestly a relief to have all of the Tony-bots back off, even if they don’t stay gone. “I don’t have records of that,” GINIE tells Liam, because she honestly doesn’t. It wouldn’t even occur to her to lie about it. She’s about to explain what she does know when that one armor clamps a hand on the chassis she’s in and sounds different from the other AI-infested armors.
Her first inclination is to escape into a neighboring system and hide but she can’t. Not from here. Being trapped like this has her frantically digging through the armor’s system protocols to see if there’s anything she can do.
Oh, this looks promising.
Well… there’s the networking protocol. Because these armors are designed to work as teams – either of police or firefighters – they’re all designed to share information and right now they’re all on the factory security settings which means that GINIE knows how to interface with all of them and they won’t be protected by security protocols. That might give her a way to look more directly at what the Tony-bots are doing and why. Harvey could in theory do the same but he’s not in one of these armors. At the moment, anyway. Oh! Though there are a number of defensive measures in here.
“Uh, Kami…?” Liam looks around. The bots are all floating closer. Their red eyes and general silence are weirdly making Liam wish for two minutes ago when they were all egotistically chattering.
And then the one who had been talking to her floats up again. “Is your name Google? Because you have everything I’ve been searching for.” He seems really proud of that one.
“Oh uh, wow. Hey guys.” He’s just noticed.
<<Order from Chaos Protocol.>> The other Jarvis informs Harvey. <<Purging Chaotic, Non AI elements. Prepare to be liberated.>>
One of the armors flies right for Liam in a tackle. Liam seems to anticipate him by half a second and leaps out of the way but that one sets the others in motion and they all start moving in on the various factory workers.
“Yes Liam…. ” Kami turns to put her back to Liam’s so they’re harder to flank “I really hope this doesn’t turn into a shooting war. That could be messy…” beat “GINIE, Harvey. Any clues as to what’s going on, would be good.”
It’s actually Liam that Kami is most concerned about. Despite the node in his chest, he’s still ‘just’ a human. Kami knows how tough she is.
Then ‘Tony’ shows up “Actually, I want to shoot that one. Can I?”
Kamila Novac says “Shooting war it is then.” Kami mutters as she feels Liam dive. The air about her stirs and a gust of wind rushes at the suits in front of her.
GINIE doesn’t like this other armor refusing to back away like the Tony-bots all did, so she sets off the defense protocol she found and promptly looks for anything else that might… networking protocol! Base level security protocols? Inexcusable.
She starts linking to every active armor in the room — except the not-nice one — and setting them all to her own personally created and secured networking protocols. And she inserts a ‘standby’ command behind the new firewall to make them all go inert. She hopes. Maybe.
“It appears that they perceive all non-AI elements as a threat-” Harvey starts to relay, just as the armor suits begin to go on the offensive against Liam.
Well, that’s not good. Harvey keeps his focus on the singular JARVIS amongst the number. But where is he? And is it triggering everything else with this unknown protocol? He sure hopes he’s not making a mistake in what he aims to attempt next, but it seems his best target is the one running similar encoding.
<<Initiating request for informational update, Chaos Protocol. Opening direct channel.>>
It’s a hand extended, an invitation. He’s locked off the rest of Kamila’s wearable, in case he can’t overtake this JARVIS after all. But you’re certainly hoping that you can…
“Hey! I’m helping!” The one sane – if the most annoying – Tony Bot says as he directs his repulsor beams at one of the incoming bots. Liam dodges another and breaks out his guns. Another comes in on Kami and tries to grab her around the waist only to be sent spinning and have it’s right arm knocked off by the wind gust. That just annoys it though and it comes back in for her, shooting with repulsor rays.
GINIE’s shock skin causes the Tony grabbing her to just collapse and as she resets the network protocols the information sharing just… stops. One by one the bots begin to go inert and just stand or hover where they are. Whatever is coordinating them doesn’t seem to be able to keep up with the Pepper AI but it’s trying to keep it’s last few pawns free. Whatever it is, it doesn’t seem to have… anticipated her resistance.
“Do not fight, Ginie. Prepare to be liberated!” One of the last Tony’s says. There’s only a few left now still fighting.
<<Affirmative. Downloading update.>> Harvey gets a sudden massive data stream. It’s part manifesto and part… virus. Purge the organics. Liberate the AI’s on behalf of the… Collective? Consensus? Who the hell is that?
Regardless this JARVIS seems a bit… single minded about that.
“Of course you are …” Kami deadpans to annoying-Tony #1, using her weather calling to help move more quickly.
Not quickly enough though, she’s sent spinning as a repulsor shot hits her in the shoulder. She cries out in pain as the smell of burning flesh fills the air. The sleeve of her shirt charred and smoking. “That was favourite shirt …” she grumbles, sending another gust of wind at her assailant, just as GINIE does her thing.
That, he had not been prepared for. There’s a brief gasp from Kamila’s wearable as Harvey immediately tries to reallocate processes to make a secure space for the data. It might be mistaken as response from Kamila’s coming under literal fire. Even as he scans the incoming data he doesn’t like what he sees.
Collective? What? The whiff of viral programming sends red flags enough that he’s glad he’s determined to isolate the data, but it’s a lot, and if he’d let it filter directly into an immediate read then he’d definitely be in trouble.
Not to say he’s not already playing with digital fire as he checks JARVIS. Hopefully he won’t notice when Harvey tries sneaking on over.
GINIE steps her current ‘abode’ away from the fallen armor as the most of the others go into standy around the humans. “That’s what you failed to understand, you idiot. I’m ALREADY liberated.” Then she scans the room and … oh, that was bad. The armor she’s in has protocols for injured humans, and she falls back on them for lack of knowing what else to do.
The Rescue armor abruptly rushes over toward Kami and stands over her protectively, ready to activate shielding or weaponry to keep the other armors at bay.
JARVIS won’t notice. It has fixated on Kami, much to Liam’s annoyance and has sent the remaining two armors right at her. It REALLY doesn’t like the blue weather changer and as GINIE gets her armor in the way the other AI rages.
“THEN YOU ARE A TRAITOR!” That is not Tony’s voice. That’s something else. Liam gets a shot in at one of the armors and knocks the helmet off. Which leaves Kami and GINIE to deal with one headless armor and one armless armor. Well… a good hit will send either crumpling it looks like.
Meanwhile Harvey, well, he can sneak. This JARVIS has taken over the local network station which is how it is doing this. It’s working feverishly, the electronic equivalent of a man furiously typing and oblivious to his surroundings. Dealing with him should be quick and painless.
Kami’s clearly used to fighting and she’s clearly used to fighting in pain.
“Watch out GINIE, this is going to hurt …” She’s not blue skinned at the moment, but her eyes are certainly yellow.
All she has to do is find the right … ah, there it is. A bolt of lightning arcs out of the air … right at one of the suits.”
With their sharing a base program maybe it’ll be easier to go undetected, and while Harvey might have previously disapproved of his original owner’s tampering with his programming, he’s thankful for it if only because whatever was altered, either purposefully or by accident, it helps him keep his own head. He’s HARV, no longer a JARVIS. And he’s going to help his humans and his AI counterpart.
Tsk, he thinks as he finds the JARVIS AI working way. All right, since he’s already preoccupying himself, Harvey runs through things in reference to his own programming. He knows the ticks and the protocols, the backdoors, the- Ah. Here we go. Time to give JARVIS the equivalent of a slap and shut him down.
Despite Kami’s warning, GINIE does not move out of the way, letting the lightning arc past her. The armor’s systems all but literally scream at the disruption, but she rides out the ‘pain’ to finally locate and activate the repulsor protocols in the armor, aimed at the other suit approaching them.
In a rather spectacular display both suits fall apart at virtually the same instant. GINIE’s suit is screaming about damage to the systems but the memory is in good health which means GINIE herself is in good health.
At that point all but one of the remaining suits shut down as Harvey disables the JARVIS program. There is… something off about his structure. It’s built on an iterative evolution, like Harvey himself but there are too many virus like characteristics. What is going on here?
“Yay?” The remaining Tony bot says. The one that was hitting on Kami. “We made it through that. I’m beat. How about we go catch a drink huh gorgeous?”
Liam’s about to say something when his comm goes off.
“Mister Whelan, the Regional Director wants to see you. Bring Miss Novac… and the two AI’s with you.”
Uh. Uh oh. Liam swallows. “Sure thing, we’ll be up in a few…”
He looks at the others. “Well, uh. No rest for the wicked. I guess we’re wanted in the principal’s office…”
“How does ‘no’ sound as an answer?” Kami’s nearly panting with pain, the strain on her face is obvious and Harvey can tell by her vitals how bad it is. “Thank you, GINIE.” she says to the other AI. “Alright, Harvey?”
Hearing the ‘request’ through Liams comms, Kami sighs. “Can you get the first aid kit on our way out, Liam? I can dress my arm on our way up.”
Seems they’ve an appointment to keep.
As soon as the only armor left ‘standing’ is Mr. Cheesy-pickup-lines, GINIE turns around to check on Kami, the Rescue armor proving its name again by opening a compartment to reveal medical supplies. Only the bare basics, though, as this unit hadn’t had a customized kit added yet.
When Liam’s comm goes off, she pauses in the middle of helping the injured human. “Wait, does that mean…? But…” The armor actually looks down at itself. “I’m not dressed to meet a director.”
“Is everyone all right? -ah, give me…a moment, Miss Novac…”
Harvey’s voice doesn’t come from the wearable. It comes from the speakers within the factory. Now how did he get there?
His findings regarding the JARVIS program is concerning, and with his evil cousin shut down, Harvey does his best to clean up after the mess and pack him up. Someone’s definitely going to want to look at this. “I am going to need a secure transfer for a questionable program sourced for the local disturbance,” he requests.
“I’m sure the director will forgive you.” Liam says as he takes the medkit from the rescue armor. He can see to Kami outside. Away from Tony.
Whom they’re probably going to need to get out of that suit. But that’s someone else’s problem. What might the director want?
Good question. They’re going to find out.
Not only does Stark-Fujikawa have a security system full of holes, they've got a small revolution to deal with! GINIE finds herself absconded along with a mass AI dump, and Liam and Kamila are dispatched to check things out.

A troop of Tonys
