The world so far…
Fifty years ago, mutants were still something that everyone had heard of… but not everyone really believed in. The X-Men were part terrorist group and part underground heroes but mostly urban myth. Groups had just started lobbying for the idea of Mutant Registration when the problem seemed to solve itself.
The Wakanda/Genosha Conflict pulled in every hero and villain known, and when the dust settled… they were gone.
Some are sure they died. Others think that maybe they went somewhere else. If anyone knows the truth, they aren’t talking. And after that, if there were any mutants? They kept quiet.
Thirty years ago, the World Health Organization noted a sharp decline in recorded births.
Twentyfive years ago, they identified the Phage and that it was too late.
Twenty years ago was the last birth on record. We thought that was the end. Some argue, it was.
That same year, we found the first Ark. A massive vault of humans in suspended animation and even more stockpiles of genetic material for the creation of more. Except they weren’t homo sapiens. They were homo superior. Mutants.
Immune to the Phage, it looked like Mutants really would be the next step in our evolution. But homo sapien won’t go down without a fight.
The backdrop to our ongoing story is Chicago, and having a reason to either live or regularly visit will make finding RP easier. It’s not the only place things are happening though, and Players are invited to tell their story all over the globe.
On Inheritance Gambit you can play a wide range of characters and sometimes the “types” of those characters might seem a bit convoluted and even excessive so we want to tell you the driving forces of why we have these character options.
- We never want to have to remove someone from their character. Not if they haven’t RPed lately, not if they haven’t logged in recently. Once you make your character, it’s yours.
- We want our Players to get to play the character they want, be that Wolverine or something of their own creation.
- We want our Players to get to play the version of the character they want. James Howlett. Logan. Old Man Logan. Female Logan (X-23). Exiles Logan. What If?! Logan.
This is pretty much the core idea of the game. The entire setting has been created with this in mind. Because of this, canon Characters that could only exist as a one-off or are “the original” are not available to apply for. Everyone’s version of say, Wolverine is equally valid, equally “real” and we’ve tried to develop a background for our Players that makes having different versions of a character interesting, and doesn’t just water down the experience.
